New Print Series!

I finally got my own wide format printer! Picked up a sweet deal on a Canon Pro 9000 Mark2... Let me tell you.... ITS FUCKING AMAZING!!!!!! you have to see them in real life... Ill try to take a picture of a print but it still doesnt do it justice.

Anyway I did a series of limited edition prints to test out the colors and went a little crazy... The first set I did was the steampunk skull series. I designed 20 different color schemes and then did only one-off print of each. Thats it... Next I did the retro looking skeleton smoking joints poster in 3 different color schemes and only did 7 of each. All of these are hand signed and numbered and printed on expensive ass museum quality archival watercolor paper. Thats the only thing with the printer...the nice fine art paper is pretty ridiculous in price. But when you print on it you will know where every penny went... I couldnt believe the colors I was able to produce! very vibrant bright colors. And the paper isnt even glossy. Its totally matte but the colors are amazing.

So I did those...came out sweet. And now im on to my next series. Im posting the original painting I did for it. I always paint the original with only black ink... I dilute the ink and paint it on watercolor paper with a "spit-shading" technique (a tattoo artist thing... learned it from my bff at work. THANKS NICK BONES!) I then scan it in at super high rez and digitally color it in layers using Photoshop. It takes me a while to do all this....but once it done and printed its pretty amazing to see it in person. I enjoy this new technique and will be using it more often. Im getting better at watercolors. I think my style tends to change a little using them but I still bring in the sickness! enjoy. and check back soon for color versions of the decap girl piece!

DAMN!!!! its crazy how time flies... Now im too far behind on all the cool shit thats been going on. I guess Ill just start posting tons of random pictures of stuff Ive done. oh well.... check it out!

Ok hopefully this link works.... but heres my first time lapse video of me painting a picture for a friends xmas gift. I am so excited.... I bought a Samsung H200 video camera....it has time-lapse recording built into it! so easy to use. HIGHLY RECOMENDED.... bought it new for $300.... totally worth it.

Biggs Pawn Sculpt! ver. 1

Just started sculpting my first chess set. Started with the pawn of course. Check it out. Im sculpting it in digital 3D and then going to send it to get printed in 3D... Once I get them done I will be releasing limited edition hand painted full sets. Might even sculpt a bad ass board to go with it. Im getting quicker with the software im using. Im back! damn,... was gone for a while. I cant believe how busy I have been and still kept my sanity. Had a solo art show and huge tattoo convention to prepare for... I survived and did really well at both shows! I am going to be posting a lot of new stuff in the next few days and weeks ahead. I got so many new tattoo pics and art pics to post it would just be too much to post in one sitting...so heres the first set. This is some of the work ive done recently at Studio 21... which by the way, is the most bad ass shop ive ever seen or worked for by far!!!! Anyway enjoy... more to come.

Finally! got some new art done. Had a few art shows this month. One is an all black and white themed show so I did 3 black ink paintings. They were so much fun to paint I think Ill do more!!! and I did 2 smaller oil paintings that are just weird....but fun stuff.

I moved into the new shop! I love it to death! Everyone there is super amazing and very nice and professional. Its the best tattoo shop Ive ever seen or worked in. Studio 21 is my new home. Expect to se some new tattoo pics soon. Ive already done some cool new stuff! enjoy.

Biggs in 3D!!! no special glasses required

So I decided to get back into 3D... yes yes... a little known fact is that I have a college degree in computer animation. I did it for a few years and just couldnt get work....so I ended up doing graphic design and then stumbled into tattooing... thats another story. ANYWAYS.... I am getting into 3D sculpting. I tried getting into a few programs. First I tried Zbrush... good stuff but couldnt really get into it. I tried Mudbox...made by the trusty 3D Studio max peeps but that was even worse! I then tried a program my friend Dylan suggested... 3D Coat. It was love at first touch... i know that sounds creepy but my love for 3D came rushing back when I broke out my wacom tablet and starting sculpting in 3D with ease!!!! I did a few weird faces at first just to get used to the tools... Its so damn addicting!! So I bought the program and installed it then made a list of all the art ive done that could probably work as a 3D sculpture to start out... My first serious project is turning my "Evacuation" face with the eyeball in his mouth into a full 3D sculpture that I can send to a company once Im done and they can print in 3D and send me the actual physical copy of it! God bless technology. I embrace it with every physical and mental extremity. Here is my first project done with 3D Coat. Its not done yet but im getting pretty good at the program. More to come. Not too sure what material this will be made of but I will definitely be getting a few test copies made in resin (plastic). Check it out.... still learning...

FINALLY!!! I am learning a lot of new stuff at the shop lately. I did my first 2 realistic tattoos in the past 2 days! and i already feel like ive gotten a lot better! I did both tattoos with no outlines, painterly style... All done with a 9mag and 15mag. So much fun... I definetly love my job and love it when people let me do cool shit like this. :)

Ive been busy doing a lot of work for other people. Freelance work can get hectic while pulling a fulltime job. I kinda got overwhelmed for a few weeks... but im slowly getting back to regular life. I havent done any art for myself in a while....its been too long. I find it harder to control my anxiety issues when i cant work on my own art and relax a little. I even had a food poisoning episode in the middle of all this so i was drained and sick for a little bit. So... I will be posting a lot of stuff here in the next few days if i can just sit down and go through my camera and computer. Heres the first batch of stuff:

I got commissioned to do a background painting for this bad ass guy who blows artistic glass pieces. He got this hand blown glass piece put on the cover of High Times...i actually believe you can smoke out of it!!! so he is going to be making limited edition prints of it... background art done by me.

heres a sneak peak of the oil painting im almost done with. Im so glad ive started oil painting again. Its my favorite medium and i think what im best at. It takes patients and time but comes out exactly how i want it if not better then... Im getting a lot better at watercolor painting too. My friend Nick and I have completed about 6 paintings so far in our Mario Bros. tattoo flash set. Still more to come so Im not going to post anything until we are totally done with the whole set. Its now officially christmas! Here is what i did earlier today at work. My good friend Shelley is moving away to lovely San Fran! so lucky... wish i could get out of this shithole Vegas... anyway thats another story/rant. So she wanted a tattoo before she left. This one was very challenging. Small tattoo of a queen chess piece made out of wood... holy crap...but i think i did pretty good. This was surprisingly harder then i thought.

Anyway... Gotta work on christmas! what a bunch of crap. Who gets a tattoo on christmas? Im gonna just sit there and play video games and pick my nose. Anyway... merry christmas. I hope everyone is spending time with their families and having fun. The year is almost up! its time to reflect on all the crazy shit you did. enjoy!

Heres a few pics of some newer tattoos ive done recently. I am also in the process of doing a tattoo flash book with a friend of mine... the first in a series. The first set will be all super mario inspired designs! yes... you gotta see them to believe it. Imagine mario and all the vast amount of characters all done in tattoo style! We are painting all the designs now with watercolors and will have the first set done soon. Ill post pics once the whole project is done and books will be available for sale. Thats all for now. Hey there! I did some live digital painting at a show last night for First Friday here in Vegas. I usually try to do live painting every First Friday at the Bunkhouse after 10pm. Its a good way to get shit done while drinking a beer and listening to live bands! cant beat that right? Better then pandora sometimes... anyway check it out just in case you didnt see it happening live... Took me about 2 hours. I will be finishing this later... I have a lot of unfinished pieces that i need to finish and get into the catalog. I just have so many new ideas in my sketchbook that i want to get to. Might have to do more digital painting.... which comes to my next concern...

To digital or not to digital.... that is the question. This subject has been eating away at my brain for years. About a quarter of my work has been done digitally...meaning using photoshop or Painter with my wacom and painting on the computer as opposed to traditional painting (ie. real paint with brush on canvas.) so... Is it acceptable by most? Does it matter if I paint digitally or traditionally? Dont get my wrong, I love painting traditionally... its been a passion of mine since birth! but... I do think i draw better then i paint. And I do love and embrace technology. So I kinda like just being able to scan in a really nice drawing ive done and then digitally paint it all bad ass. Sometimes I think i lose a lot of the creative essence when I paint something traditionally... My idea just comes out and I draw it up first on paper... And I still take a good amount of time painting either way... so I guess my real question is... Do people value a digital painting less then a traditional? or can they consider it equal. I obviously cant sell an "original" digital painting because there is no original... but i can do large format, limited edition, beautiful giclee print that I can sell for a good amount and still keep the value pretty good and limit the prints so that it has more value. This can go on and on... endless conversations over tea and greenery...chewing the fat for days! but I just want to know peoples opinions. Sometimes I just think I can "do it better" digitally... but im torn because I dont want people to take it at less value because it wasnt done by "hand"... I do agree it take more skill to do things traditionally. I can paint pretty good i think... but sometimes its nice to have more control over your colors and saturation and every little thing i want in every detail. And I can still make it look like it was done traditionally. Some people cant tell with some of my work....they dont even know... And I dont think it matters..... Blah! ef this... Heres what I did last night.... The tortoise and the hair.... digital painting done live at a show in 2 hours.

Heres a segment of my blog that i always will try to update every week. I havent done it in a while... but heres some of the work in the past few weeks that i liked the best. Some of the pics arent the best quality but i tried. Just got a new digital camera and seems to be working out very well! Im working fulltime right now as a tattoo artist over at 3 Lions Tattoo in the Riviera. I love that shop. I get a good amount of work there from walk-ins at the hotel and I also book locals and friends. So far its been working out great and surprisingly enough I am actually happy to have a fulltime job now. I dont have a whole lot of freetime anymore but at least Im paying bills and being able to relax a little. Anyway check out some of my new stuff... more to come of course.

New Sugar Skulls Painted!

Finally got a chance to sit down and finish the first 2 sugar skulls. I did the lighter colored one with the blue flower eyes and Dasha did the darker blue one with the bad ass elaborate gold pattern on the top of the head. I like her's better so my next one im gonna have to step it up a bit and kick some ass! bwah! so... feast your eyes on these bad boys. We will have a special edition of 6 or 8 and will be unveiled at the Biggest Tattoo Show On Earth at Mandalay Bay on Oct. 2nd-4th. Finally done with the sugar skull sculpture! wahoo... just need to fix a small dent i put into it accidentally while taking pictures... Im clumsy. I will be molding this probably tonight with silicone so I can make resin copies. There will be many special editions of this available including a blank one for artists to paint themselves. I will most likely do a group art show around this too! More art toys to come! now... what should I sculpt next? so many choices! anyone got a favorite painting of ours that they would like to see made into a toy? comments are appreciated. A Day at the Biggs'...

Busy Bees at work... a great start to the weekend. The weather today was fantastic and overcast... I love rainy days... I dream about them in fact. Doesn't happen very often in this dry desert shit-hole of a city called Vegas. But... I'm happy. So happy in fact that I started sculpting again! wahoo! I decided to narrow down the long list of things i wanted to sculpt down to the sugar skull. Its classic, traditional and timeless. And my lovely wife, Dasha started painting a new Hendrix piece for the series we are doing... Listening to Animal Collective... good stuff! Highly recommended for painting sessions. Im packing all my crap up for the Body Art Expo in Pomona this weekend. Ive been so excited about this trip. Its my first convention out of town! Im bring my new tattoo equipment too! I just got a complete Neuma tattoo machine setup. They are pneumatic tattoo machines driven by air. They are the dopest things ive ever used! anyway It should be fun. Hopefully ill do lots of tattoos and sell lots of art. At least it gets my name out there. Maybe even in a magazine! So check back for pictures of the event when I get back. I just couldnt wait anymore. I finally sat down and put together a new volume of our art book. Its 101 pages this time! I wish I had the money to have boxes and boxes of these but for now I got 2 prototype books from the printer! If you order one of these babies from us we will not only hand sign it but also do a custom one-off piece of art inside the book so that you have one that is unique and one of a kind. Anyway I should have these available by the next first friday. Maybe Ill throw a book release party! Heres some sneak peeks at the prototype! peace out...

I decided to start doing sketches of the day posts. I probably wont get to it everyday but ill try to scan in sketches from my sketchbook every once in a while. So one day you should see this as a painting. or maybe not... so heres the first one! i got a new sketchbook just so i could start this on the right foot. I got a moleskin! and i love it....if you dont know what one is just go to barnes and nobles and pick one up. They have the bigger sizes and the paper is great to sketch on. Anyway... and now what you all have been waiting for...

Art & Ink Festival May 2009

I finally got around to getting the photos off my camera from the art & ink festival at the southpoint. I had a booth for my art and then i got to tattoo in another booth for the shop i work at - Vegas Skin Art. So i got to pimp my shit in 2 different locations at the event! It worked out pretty well. I had my wife, Dasha, sell art at our booth along with some wonderful friends of mine to help her out. My agent was there to help too! Thanks guys! Here are a few pics of the booth and a few of the tattoos i did for people at the convention. I did a few more then whats shown but couldnt get a good pic of it or just forgot to take a damn picture of it! sometimes that happens. Anyway i got a few good shots. It was a good event for me and Im thinking about getting into more tattoo conventions outside of Vegas. Anyway check out the pics and enjoy. :)

So I started this bad ass sleeve on my friend Luke (WhatfOUR). All biomech style. The whole arm will be like this. Pretty crazy design... A whole lot of shading that will be in progress for the next month or 2. Check out what i did today. I drew on his arm with sharpies and then went at it. All from the head. yay for commission jobs! I am being commissioned to do some artwork for the awesome band, Underwater Ally. They have some cool tunes if you ever want to hear some tripped out mellow stuff which is exactly what im into. A little bit on the radiohead (kid a, amnesiac) side of sound and singing. Anyway. I decided to show my process of doing the art. They gave me the idea and i rolled with it... so i sketched it out and painted the background and now the rest will be done digital. TATTOO TIME!

Hey everyone! Sorry I havent posted anything in a while. Ive actually started a new job. I decided to start tattooing more and get licensed and all that. So I got all my paperwork done, got my vaccinations for Hep A and B and got a TB skin test (passed), and then took my written exam... I passed the test and got my temporary tattoo license! but Im tattooing now in a shop called Vegas Skin Art. So far Ive done about 4 or 5 tattoos and things are goin pretty well. I just need to get more clients. But I really really enjoy tattooing. Ive been pretty sick of graphic design lately. It was cool for about 6 years now but it has gotten really old. Im kinda sick of working for rich pricks who dont appreciate good work from a good artist. Seems like thats all ive dealt with in the past years. They want a lot of work for cheap. And they dont realize how much work it really is. Anyway Im going to be taking a break from it and pursue my career in tattooing! I might travel more and go to conventions out of state and do tattoos and sell art. Anyway its all good stuff. Heres a few tattoos ive done in the past.

Goddamn... I forgot my camera! I shouldve taken at least a few pics with my phone of my show in case people who couldnt make it could see it here. I need to learn to just carry my big ass Nikon D80 everywhere i go....but damn its big and bulky... nice but bulky. Anyway things went really well tonight. It was really nice seeing friends and new faces coming to First Friday. Its the first time in 5 months that ive been able to pay my rent for the gallery without coming out of pocket. Its like a huge "wahoo!" ...and I give my wife a nice high five! and we go home and pass out. But seriously I was in a great mood tonight. The weather is getting nicer...and I got to do a lot of new art! doing a lot of stuff for yourself feels damn good. Ive learned a lot in the last few months and got to experiment with different mediums and styles. I am working a few sketches and will post things soon....so much to go through. I have so much stuff people have never seen. So check back often. Ill have more interesting stuff to show. For now....heres some random stuff!

Hendrix session 4

I started doin a little with my new airbrush i got... im diggin it! I went around and adjusted colors and added some detail. You cant really see what i did until you look up close in person. Its pretty trippy. Anyway ill work on more tonight. Its tea time. and maybe some greenery.

So ive been battling and cursing through the stages of his face....which is the hardest part of the entire godamn painting! But... its coming together i think... can anyone tell me if it looks like him? can i move on? haha... i want to get to the fun parts which will be the smoke coming from the spliff and the fishies should be fun too. Once i get past the hardships of painting his face it will be all easy and fun after that. I also need to put in some highlights into his hair... that will make shit pop! anyway thats all.. im gonna go back to painting. Might post some more later tonight. PEACE!

Biggs Paints Hendrix!

So ive been commissioned to do a series of 8 paintings of one of the greatest guitarist in history, Jimi Hendrix. I got to learn a little bit about him and ive been doing a lot of research and picture finding. Anyway... Im going to start posting progress shots of the whole painting process, which I never do... So this is an experiment. The first painting ive decided to do was inspired by an interview with him asking where he got the inspiration to write "Purple Haze". He went on to say that most of his songs are based on dreams. Purple Haze was written after he had a dream he was walking around underwater. Sounded pretty cool and trippy so i decided to go on that. :) so here we go.... this is the first few hours of work. Im not fond of acrylic but i really want to do touchups and highlights with my airbrush in the end... anyway check out the pictures... this should be a fun project.

Biggs Studio at CHAMPS Trade Show!

I got a booth at the CHAMPS trade show here in Las Vegas. Its being held at the Rivera convention center March 17-19th. Ive been working my ass off for like 2 months towards this project. The booth was pretty expensive but I think it will be worth it. This is my first trade show. Its a show for all the buyers for headshops and smokeshops.... pretty interesting! The after-parties should be even more interesting! hehehe. So check back later for more news. If I do well at this show it will help jumpstart my company and I have many things Ive been wanting to do but just havent had the time or money to do them. (go figure). Anyways.... check back soon! Ill post some pics.

New BLOG! holy moly...

Well this is my first endeavor into blogging... seems like everyone asks me if I have one so I might as well start one. I will make an effort to update often and list news, new art, and adventures of me and my wife. This year so far has started out well...but not exactly for my gallery. I am struggling to keep my doors open as im paying out of pocket for rent and product. But most people say when you start a new business you shouldnt expect to make any money for a few years. I just need to at least make enough money to pay rent. But times are tough... I guess art is the last thing people are buying right now. Especially if you dont have a home to put the art in. Well... Check back often for more stuff. Ill make my listings more interesting. I just wanted to type something in and break the mold on this new blog thing. I need to learn more HTML too. New website is coming up next. Thanks so much to all my friends and family that have helped me through the years and supported my sick obsession of art. :)
